Police confirm body is found at 1538 E. Stanford

We are now able to confirm that we have discovered a young female body pursuant to a search warrant at 1538 E. Stanford. While she has not been positively identified, we have a high degree of confidence that it is Hailey Owens. An official finding, regarding identity and cause of death won’t be determined until after an autopsy is performed.
Throughout this investigation, we have kept the family informed of our progress. We let them know early this morning it was a possibility that we had located a body. But at that point, we were not able to confirm the fact that this was our victim.
SPD and FBI investigators are continuing to process multiple locations, including the residence at 1538 E. Stanford, to gather evidence related to this crime.

Craig Michael Wood, 45, of Springfield was arrested by SPD and booked into Greene County jail at approximately 11:30 p.m. Investigators continue to compile reports and gather evidence in order to present information to Greene County Prosecutor Dan Patterson, who will determine what charges are appropriate and should be filed in the case.

Suspect named in child abduction case, investigation continues

Approximately 5 p.m.
Officers obtained preliminary information from witnesses regarding vehicle description, license plate and a suspect. Based on this information, SPD was able to develop information leading to a potential suspect.

SPD issued a news release and posted to social media information about the abduction, including suspect, victim and vehicle details.
Following the AMBER Alert protocol, information was provided to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Work continued throughout the night with partners in all area law enforcement at the City, County, State and Federal level.

A multi-state AMBER alert was issued and information was distributed to all area law enforcement agencies and media outlets, including the suspect description and a description of the suspect vehicle.

Following up on a lead, investigators located the suspect vehicle at a residence in the 1500 block east of Stanford Street in Springfield. A subject, Craig M. Wood, 45, of Springfield, accompanied the investigators to police headquarters for questioning at that time.

Police also made an initial sweep of the property on Stanford in search of the victim.
Approximately 11:30 p.m.
A group of about 30 investigators conducted a coordinated search of the area near the suspect's residence (1500 block of East Stanford). That search resulted in the discovery of evidence related to this case.

Wood was taken into custody and booked into the Greene County Jail.
Approximately 2:15 a.m.
Based on evidence found, SPD obtained a search warrant for the residence. The FBI evidence response team arrived and is assisting with the search of the residence.

The investigation is ongoing at this time, with efforts focused on the Stanford property.
Throughout the investigation, SPD has kept the family apprised of ongoing developments.

Suspect and vehicle located, abducted girl remains missing

Springfield Police have located the suspect vehicle in a child abduction case and booked a suspect on kidnapping charges. The vehicle was found with the male suspect inside, at a residence in south Springfield. Hailey Owens remains missing.
A command post has been set up at National and Bennett and 30-40 officers have begun an extensive search that will continue throughout the night, or until she is found.
If she still remains missing in the morning, SPD will host a news briefing at 6:30 a.m. in the Springfield Art Museum parking lot, 1111 E. Brookside Dr.
