There is sad news from California in the case of missing
8-year-old Madyson Middleton. The child who was last seen riding a new scooter
in her Santa Cruz apartment complex is believed to have been found dead. A teen
boy has been arrested and though an autopsy will determine positive identification,
police believe it is the body of Madyson Middleton.
TheSanta Cruz Police Department had issued a public plea in the search after
reporting that the 8-year-old disappeared from the Tannery Arts Center on
Sunday, July 26, 2015, at approximately 6:08 pm. The department worked in
conjunction with the FBI, Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue
Team and employed K-9 units in the search. During the investigation teams
scoured the San Lorenzo River, levees, and made door to door searches in the
Tannery Arts Center located at 1030 River Street, where Madyson lived and was
last seen playing.
A press conference was held by police spokeswoman Joyce
Blaschke on Monday, July 27, 2015, and more than 100 police officers diligently
searched for the missing child, joined by Madyson’s mother Laura Jordan and
worried residents from the Tannery Arts Center apartment complex.

On Monday evening, July 27 at approximately 9:50 pm, the
Santa Cruz Police Department held a press conference announcing the discovery
of a body believed to be Madyson Middleton, located in a dumpster at the apartment
complex. A 15-year-old teen boy who also lives in the complex was arrested and
taken into custody. The crime scene has been cordoned off and is being
processed. An autopsy will determine Madyson Middleton’s cause of death.

Authorities are asking for anyone in the apartment complex with information on the case to come forward. The investigation continues. The teen’s identity has not been publicly released.
